ENFOpoint for Greener Living at Clara Library
The ENFOpoint in Clara Library was officialy launched in December 2010 and seeks to provide enviromental information to adults and children in a number of different ways:
Free access to the ENFO website:
You can access the ENFO website for free using a dedicated PC in the library.
Anyone who has spent some time surfing the site (hosted by An Chomhairle Leabharlanna) cannot but be impressed by the amount of environmental information contained therein. Whatever environmental topic you’re looking for information about this gateway to online environmental resources is an excellent starting point.
Topics include:
o Ireland’s environment
o General environmental issues
o Tips on greener living
o Information about individual counties in the County Focus section
o Environmental information especially for younger people
Other on-line environmental resources:
The ENFOpoint PC also contains links to Offaly County Council departments concerned with the environment and a selection of national environmental organisation websites.
Information Leaflets:
The ENFOpoint has a dedicated area for information leaflets relating to environmental issues from Offaly County Council, ENFO and national organisations.
Topics covered include:
o Water conservation
o Energy conservation
o Biodiversity
o Composting
o Our natural heritage
All of these leaflets are available free of charge.
ENFOpoint Events:
We have hosted a series of environmental events including:
o Éanna goes wild in Clara: a talk on biodiversity by ecologist, author and broadcaster Éanna Ní Lamhna given on the day that she officially launched the ENFOpoint. (December 13th 2010)
o A talk on litter, recycling and composting given by Caroline Clancy (Environmental Awareness Officer with Offaly County Council) (January 29th, 2011)
o Clara Library’s ENFOpoint played host to well-known ecologist Dale Treadwell when he gave Green Schools workshops for local primary school students here in Clara Library. The talks were arranged by Offaly County Council / Green Schools . (February 2nd – 4th 2011)
o A talk on Spiders and spiders in bog Habitats given by arachnologist Myles Nolan for first year students from Ard Scoil Chiarain Secondary School, Clara (February 9th 2011)
o Composting Workshop (April 2011)

o Community Tree Project by Clara Youthreach
ENFOnews Noticeboard
Clara Library’s ENFOpoint has a dedicated ENFO noticeboard containing news and information both local and national with an environmental flavour.
Books and other media relating to the environment:
All of the above is in addition to our own collection of books on environmental topics for adults and children. These can be read free of charge in Clara Library during opening hours. Borrowing members of Offaly County Library Service can also borrow many of these titles.
