Waste Management Plan for the Midlands Region 2005-2010
The aim of the Plan is to set out a framework for the sustainable management of waste within the five Local Authority areas (Laois, Longford, North Tipperary, Offaly and Westmeath) of the Midlands Region.
It covers all non-hazardous waste arising in the Region.
The Plan also has regard to the management of hazardous waste in accordance with the National Hazardous Waste Management Plan, prepared by the EPA.
The current plan proposes an integrated approach to waste management based on the following:
- Reducing dependence on landfill
- Reducing waste growth
- Greatly increasing recycling
- Introducing waste to energy with energy recovery
