On Thursday, April 14th members of the public came along to a free Composting Workshop held in Clara Library between 6.30p.m. and 8.00p.m.   The guest speaker for the night was Nuala Madigan   - Environmental Education Officer with the Irish Peatland Conservation Council and composting consult on the Stop Food Waste initiative of the EPA under the National Waste Prevention programme.

The talk (equally aimed at the beginner as well as the experienced composter) included an introduction to the variety of composting systems available in Ireland with particular attention to wormeries, leaf mould and composting bins. This free event was supported by Offaly County Council’s Environment Section and hosted by Clara Library as part of its ongoing ENFOpoint pilot programme.

For anyone who missed the talk but would like to find out a little more about composting, 2 free booklets are currently available in Clara Library on the ENFOpoint information stand. The first Composting: a household guide is part of the Stop Food Waste programme developed by the EPA as part of the National Waste Prevention Programme. The other is entitled Guide to Composting, Wildlife Gardening & Sustainable Living and is from the Irish Peatland Conservation Council.

Further information on the ENFOpoint pilot project is available from   Clara Library on 057 9331389.
