Myles Nolan talks Spiders at Clara Library

On Wednesday, February 9th, 47 students from 1st year in Ard Scoil Chiarain Secondary School, Clara visited Clara Library   for a talk on Spiders presented by arachnologist Myles Nolan.   The illustrated talk included an i ntroduction to spiders , their a natomy and behavior , s piders in Irela nd and more specifically s piders of raised bog s in Co . Offaly .

Myles, a self-taught a rachnologist and has worked on writing life-histories of the Irish spider fauna, habitat surveys and m useum collections. He has a dded about 15 spiders to the Irish list that had not been found here previously. He has a d egree in English and philosophy. 

The talk was part of a series of events taking place in Clara Library as part of our ENFOpoint. The ENFOpoint which is located in the library includes a dedicated computer on which users, young and old, can access environmental information on the ENFO website free of charge. ENFO has a long tradition of providing quality information on the environment both in an Irish context and in general and this website provides instant access to that vast and varied array of information. Users can also access environmentally relevant sections of the Offaly County Council Website and the websites of selected national environmental organisations for free.

The library also has a selection of free leaflets and booklets relating to topics such as energy conservation, biodiversity, water conservation and our natural heritage. A dedicated notice board in the library also carries environmental news and information. This is in addition to the library’s stock of books on the environment, nature and our natural heritage.
