Daffodils will happily grow in most places – along roadsides, in hedgerows, meadows and waste ground!

Daffodils begin to flower in early spring. They usually grow in groups. They are one of Ireland’s favourite wildflowers. A lot of people plant daffodils in their garden. They give a lovely colour to the garden.

Some daffodils have creamy coloured petals with bright orange trumpet centres. Others have yellow petals.

Do you know why the daffodil flowers so early in the springtime?

They like to flower before the leaves grow on the trees. This way, they can get plenty of sunlight. They need sunlight to make food.

Have you heard of Daffodil Day? On this day, the Irish Cancer Society sells daffodils. The money helps support cancer patients and their families.
