Sea turtles usually live in the water but they also breathe air. They can stay underwater for about five minutes. Then, they swim to the surface for fresh air. However, they can stay underwater for a few hours when they are sleeping. They need less oxygen because they use less energy.

The sea turtle has a hard shell on its back. This helps to protect it from animals that are hunting for food.

Turtles lay their eggs on the same beach every year. Sometimes, turtles can lay as many as 200 eggs!
