Some scientists study barnacles to find out more about them. For example, they want to find out if the sticky stuff that sticks the barnacles to the bottom of the rocks, walls and ships could be used to mend bones.
They are also trying to find out how to soften the sticky stuff so that it is easier to remove barnacles from the bottom of ships.
