Roads in Ireland

Motorists in Ireland drive on the left hand side of the road unlike most of the rest of the EU.Which other EU country's motorists drive on the left side of the road?

In Ireland, we have primary roads, secondary raods, motorways, bypasses and dual carraigeways. There are different speed limits on these roads.

The fastest permitted speed in Ireland is on a motorway which is 120 kilometers per hour. Nowadays, cars are the most popular form of transport.

Bypasses

A bypass is a road that goes around a busy town.

More and more people have cars and there is more traffic on the roads. Sometimes there is so much traffic trying to pass through towns that there can be long traffic jams. Traffic jams cause delays and pollution.

When traffic is very bad, bypasses are built so that traffic is directed around towns and not through them.
This makes life in the town safer and more pleasant.
