Hedgehogs are quite different to the other animals in this section as they are not soft and furry, instead they are covered from head to toe in hard pointed prickles. These prickles help them protect themselves from predators.
Hedgehogs are not able to see very well but they have a great sense of smell and great hearing. Hedgehogs like to sleep during the day and get up just around sundown. In the night, they go hunting for food, such as worms, snails, slugs and beetles. Hedgehogs eat as much as they can in the autumn to prepare themselves for their hibernation in the winter.
