Evergreen and deciduous are the two main types of trees. Can you guess why some trees are called evergreen?

Evergreen trees keep their leaves all year round so they look green all of the time, just like their name suggests. Deciduous trees shed their leaves in the autumn and new shoots and leaves appear the following spring.

So, what is the role of trees in nature? Well, there are many, many roles for trees! They help to shelter animals such as birds and squirrels, their wood can be used as building material, and they help to bind the soil in the ground. However, one of the most important roles of trees is to purify the air. They take in Carbon Dioxide and release Oxygen, in a process called photosynthesis.
