Fishing is one of the biggest industries in Ireland and the Irish Sea Fisheries Board helps to develop sea fishing. In Irish, this board is called An Bord Iascaigh Mhara.

Fishermen use boats called ‘trawlers’ when fishing in the sea. Do you know why it is called a ‘trawler’? Well, as the boat moves through the water, fishing nets called ‘trawls’ are dragged through the sea behind it. The fish are caught up in the net and then brought onto the boat.

Some examples of fish in Irish waters are cod, hake, salmon, herring, prawns and shrimps.
