St. John's Cathedral

Although St. John's Cathedral was first built in 1753, a new gothic revival style building was constructed on the site between 1856 and 1861. The building was designed by Philip Charles Hardwick, who was also working on Adare Manor

Adare Manor

Building on Adare Manor begun in 1832 to replace the old manor house. At the time this Irish Tourist Association photo was taken in the 1940s, Adare Manor was the still the ancestral home of the Earls of Dunraven. It continued as such until it was sold by the Dunraven family in the early 1980s. It is now a luxury hotel resort.

The Franciscan Church

The Franciscan church in Limerick is a neoclassical building designed by William Corbett. Neoclassical architecture was inspired by pre-Christian, Roman architecture. As you can see, the four pillars outside the entrance make this church appear quite different from many other Limerick churches.

The foundation stone of the church was laid by Dr. Butler, Bishop of Limerick, in May 1876. The builders were McCarthy and Guerin and the architect was William Corbett. The church was completed in 1886.
