Getting Around

These days, motorways are becoming a common feature of the Irish landscape. As towns continue to grow and people are increasingly on the move, new roads are seen as a necessary development.

The M3 Motorway is a big project which could help ease congestion in some of Meath's busy towns. However, the project has been controversial, as it passes through the famous Tara Skryne Valley, which is considered one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. The site was considered sacred in pre-Christian Ireland and was the ceremonial capital of Ireland.

Big construction projects like the M3 Motorway are not just a modern phenomenon. Over 250 years ago, work began on the Boyne Canal. Like the M3 Motorway, it was designed as a solution to a transport problem.

Let's learn more about the Boyne Canal and the M3 Motorway.
