  • Aspects: South Dublin

As well as the playgrounds, the public parks in South Dublin have lots of space and facilities for other activities. These include sporting and other physical activities, such as Gaelic football, hurling, basketball, soccer, tennis and walking.

Tymon Park is home to Ireland's National Basketball Arena where the Irish basketball team play their international matches. As well as being a major sports facility, this venue hosts many conventions and cultural events.

Corkagh Park in Clondalkin contains Ireland's only purpose-built baseball fields. The fields were built due to the sponsorship of the Irish-American Peter O'Malley, former owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers. They were opened in 1998 and now host regular season league games.

Leisure Centres

The Fettercairn Youth Horse Project is a seven-acre, community-owned facility in Tallaght. It has twenty stables and runs horse-riding lessons and tailored equine training programmes for children from all over the county. Children can also join one of two clubs, The Ranch or The Saturday Club. These clubs allow them to take lessons and learn about stable management. The facility has a wide range of horses and ponies to suit every level of ability, from beginners to experienced horse-riders.

There are many other amenities for playing games and sports in South Dublin. Tallaght and Clondalkin  leisure centres both have large swimming pools, fitness studios, sports halls and other recreational facilities for the use of the local communities.
