Environment and transport

Airplanes burn huge quantities of fossil fuel and are now the fastest-growing man-made contributor to carbon dioxide emissions.
Carbon Dioxide is a naturally occuring gas which some scientists believe is linked to climate change and global warming.

As well as polluting the air, exhaust emissions from cars contribute to

which could cause climate change.

Every year, on September 22nd, we have a European Car Free Day.

Across the EU, people are asked to take different types of transport like walking, cycling and public transport.

Do you think that this is an effective way to persuade people to use types of transport that prevent damage to the environment?

Things you can do for the environment

Plant a tree
  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle:
You can reduce your waste and recycle paper, tins and glass. Does your school recycle?
  • Use Less Heat and Air Conditioning:
This can save on the amount of carbon dioxide that is emitted into the environment.
  • Use Less Hot Water:
Save energy and carbon dioxide by letting dishes air-dry instead of using a dish washer.
  • Plant a Tree :
A single tree will absorb approximately one ton of carbon dioxide during its lifetime. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen during the day. Have you trees around your school and home?
  • Encourage Others :
Show your family how to reduce, reuse and recycle. Using less energy means we will become less dependant on the fossil fuels that create greenhouse gases that could contribute to global warming.

Discussion Time!

Can you and your friends think of any other ways to help the environment?
