Is your school involved in the Green Schools Programme?

Flash

This programme encourages students to become more aware of the environment and aims to reduce waste in schools as much as possible. Over 3,000 schools are now involved in the programme, and on average there is a 65% reduction in waste.

There are seven steps involved in the Green Schools Programme, and you can find out more about these on the Green Schools website.

When a school has changed its practices, and has become ‘greener’, it can apply for a green flag to show its commitment to helping the environment.

An environmental inspector will visit the school to make sure it has reduced its waste enough to be rewarded with a green flag status.

Earlier on in this section,we gave you lots of ideas on how to become more aware of the environment, but I’m sure you have some great ideas of your own. Make a list of other ways you can start living a ‘greener’ life.

If your school isn’t involved in the Green Schools Programme, why not ask your teacher about getting involved?

Your ideas can be as creative as you like – it really is lots of fun!
