Sources of Information

Ask a Librarian

Libraries are great places to find all sorts of information and there are many ways you can use your local library to your advantage when doing research.

Library resources:

It’s worth walking around your local library and learning the layout. You may be surprise by what you find - there are plenty of other resources apart from books.

·          Internet access

·          Daily newspapers

·          DVDs

·          CDs

·          Audio books

·          Maps

·          Local archive material e.g. newspapers, photos, records

·          Encyclopedias

·          Dictionaries

Remember, ask the librarians if you’re not sure where to start – they’re there to help you! They can show you some ways to search for the information you need, both in the library and through the online library resources. They can also suggest what books, articles, websites and other resources may be useful for your research project.

For contact details of your local library, please see the Libraries section of Ask about Ireland.
