On 16 January 1922, the last Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Lord Fitzalan, received the cabinet members of the provisional government of the Irish Free State to hand over power to them in the name of the British government. St. Mary's Parochial House
St. Mary's Parochial House is situated in a late 18th century house in the church grounds of St. Mary's. It was the home of the Ingram, Arthur and Carr familes and from 1847 to 1982 it was the presbytery of St. Mary's parish. It was restored in 1997 as a parish centre.

Dún Dúchathair on Inishmore, Co. Galway has a massive drystone wall cutting off the cliff-bound promontory. The entrance was between the cliff and the wall on the left and the foundations of buildings can be seen close to the wall
