Quarrying is a 2 billion euro/year industry in Ireland which grew from 36 million tons in 1993 to 110 million tons of aggregates extracted per annum ten years later. These quantities include value added products such as concrete blocks, asphalt etc). Quarrying is particularly associated with Carboniferous limestone and accounts for 10% of all construction industry output.
