Irish Railway Record Society Archive

The former goods office of the Great Southern & Western Railway at Heuston Station (situated opposite the station car park entrance) houses a member's library which is one of the largest collections relating to railways in private hands in these islands. It consists of about 20,000 books, pamphlets, magazines, timetables, financial reports, statistics and other items. The Society's archives, which are also housed in the premises, contain over 250,000 items relating to Irish Railways, including maps and drawings, as well as an invaluable collection of staff employment records, as well as files relating to the everyday operation of Irish railways.

Library and Archives are open to visitors on Tuesday evenings (July and August excepted) from 1930 to 2145hrs. Persons undertaking serious academic research and genealogical researches into their family history, and for whom these hours are difficult, should contact the Hon Archivist, Rev Dr Norman Gamble, as an alternative and mutually agreeable time may be possible. Please note that the Society is a voluntary body and all members give their time in a voluntary capacity.
