East Clare Heritage

East Clare Heritage was formed in 1989. It is a registered company with charitable status based in St. Cronán’s 10th Century Church, Tuamgraney. Their primary objective is to protect, promote and ultimately create access to the vast heritage of East Clare.

To date the company has published 14 editions of the acclaimed historical journal ‘Sliabh Aughty,' a History of Holy Island on Lough Derg, a History of Scariff and Tuamgraney, a History of Mountshannon, a History of the O’Gradys of Clare and Limerick, a History of the O’Maddens of Hy Many and a History of Scariff Workhouse.

Other publications include Sliabh Aughty Ramble, Musings on the folklore, history, landscape and literature of the Sliabh aughty region and The Old Road; The Writings of Nora T.Goonane Leonard 1913-2007. They have also created a memorial park to the Famine and established Holy Island as the number one visitor site in north/east Clare.
