Dr. Douglas Hyde Heritage Centre

The exhibition and interpretative centre dedicated to the late President of Ireland, Dr. Douglas Hyde (1860-1949) is situated in the church where his father served as rector. Hyde was born into a comfortable Anglo-Irish background but became interested in the revival of the Gaelic language and preserving Irish customs and traditions. His Gaelic League played a major role in the Irish cultural revival of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He served as the first President of Ireland from 1938 to 1945.
