The Irish Theatre Archive


The Irish Theatre Archive was established in 1981 and now holds 270 collections and over 100,000 individual items. It is housed at Dublin City Library and Archive and includes collections relating to Irish theatres such as The Gaiety, The Gate, Theatre Royal and others. The papers of well known Irish actors such as Cecil Sheridan, Micheál MacLiammóir, Christopher Casson and Jimmy O’Dea are included. It also holds extensive collections of programmes, posters, photographs, press cuttings, prompt-books, costume and stage designs relating to theatres, amateur groups and theatre clubs, together with original plays in typescript and manuscript.
