The highest mountain in Co. Carlow is Mount Leinster, which stands at 2,610 feet. Despite its name, Mount Leinster is the highest mountain outside of Co. Wicklow, not the highest mountain in all of Leinster. That title belongs to Lugnaquille.

It is part of the Blackstairs Mountain range that lies on the border of Co. Carlow and Co. Wexford. Its tough ascent attracts walkers and cyclists, and the route has often been included in the FBD Rás.

To the west, the Killeshin Hills divide the counties of Carlow and Laois. From the top of these hills, the picturesque and tranquil Barrow Valley can be viewed. It is also said that ten counties are visible from the Killeshin Hills.
