The Cavan Way

The Cavan Way provides a walkway through valleys and over hills, connecting the Ulster Way at the town of Blacklion with the Leitrim Way at the village of Dowra. The total length of the trail from Lough Erne all the way to the glens of north Leitrim is 26km.

In general, the walkway follows the course of the River Shannon to its source at the Shannon Pot, across the upland Cuilcagh Mountain region to the town of Blacklion. Walkers along the Cavan Way can enjoy the magnificent countryside views as well as a large array of flora and fauna.

Other areas of interest along the route include a stretch of limestone pavement, similar to that in the Burren, Co. Clare, and 200 acres of Burren Forest. Coral fossils can be found in parts of this limestone pavement. Megalithlic tombs, dolmens, a passage grave, and ancient flied systems are among the features of archaeological interest.
