Copyright John KennedyThe undisturbed environment of Connemara attracts a variety of bird species. Skylarks, Stonechats, Robins, Wrens, Meadow Pipits and Chaffinches can be frequently observed as their songs carry through the air.
The Kestrel bird of prey is commonly seen hovering over the open countryside, waiting for an opportunity to swoop down on prey such as insects or small mammals. Other birds of prey, Sparrowhawk, Peregrine Falcon and Merlin, are less frequently observed.
During the winter-time, migrants from Europe such as Redwing and Fieldfare arrive as well as native birds from other parts of Ireland. Woodcock, Snipe, Starling, Song Thrush and Mistle Thrush all flock to the park.
