Coast

Co. Meath has quite a small coastline of just 10.4 km. However, the beach that stretches from Laytown/Bettystown to Mornington is clean and sandy, and a popular natural amenity.

The extensive dune system around Mornington is an important conservation area due to the strong plant community. While Marram Grass is the dominant species, Red Fescue, Common Bird’s-foot-trefoil, Wild Carrot, Wild Thyme and Lady’s Bedstraw are amongst the other species that help to make up the dune ecosystem. The Red Data Book  species Wild Sage also grows along the dunes.
