Drumlease

Drumlease Drum-lias, "the ridge of the Fort"

The entire parish of Drumlease beginning five miles on the Eastern side of Sligo Town, is one succession of mountains and hills, each of peculiar shape and striking splendour. From the summit of anyone of them unforgettable views are obtained, foremost amongst them being that of far-famed Lough Gill which edges the major portion of the southern side of the parish. Two miles to the north of Dromahair - only village within the parish bounds is Greenawn, a beautiful conical wooded hill that it is said St Patrick considered being "the nicest in Ireland". He founded the first parish church adjacent to this hill.
