Howth Castle in 1740
Howth Castle as it looked in 1740. The original Castle on the Hill Of Howth dates from the Norman conquest of Ireland in the 12th century. The present castle built in the 14th century is still owned by the Gainsford St. Lawrence dynasty. Generations of the family were Barons, Earls, Lords, Viscounts, Lord Chancellors of Ireland and later elected MPs in the British House Of Commons.

A Copy of Register of Deeds in County Donegal was copied and typed by Miss R. McDaid, an assistant librarian under the supervision of the County Librarian, Mr. A. MacIntyre in 1935 following the discovery of the original in Lifford Courthouse, Co. Donegal. Listed alphabetically are the names on the deeds of freeholders in Co. Donegal in the 1760s and 1770s followed by more specific details including the date when the freeholder registered. The freeholder was a proprietor who held a piece of land and had the right to lease, rent or sell.
Wright, G.N. A guide to the county of Wicklow. London: Baldwin, Cradock and Joy, 1827
G.N. Wright's Guide To The County Of Wicklow was first published in 1827. His guide was intended for visitors of the county who wished to follow a serpentine route from Dublin to Arklow, back north to Enniskerry and south again to Baltinglass. The book with its descriptions of the towns, landscape, people and culture of Wicklow is a snapshot of the county twenty years after the 1798 rebellion and twenty years before the calamity of the Great Irish Potato Famine. Wright possesed a great eye for detail, scenic locations and an intimate knowledge of the geography and people of the region.

A History Of The City Of Dublin by John Thomas Gilbert was written between 1854-1859 in three volumes and is a highly detailed account of the history of his native city from earliest Viking times until the 19th century. His history covers the development of the city marrying his own indepth local knowledge with impressive scholarship. His writings describes the eccelesiastical, cultural, political and social history of the capital of Ireland at one time the second city of the British Empire.
Corlea, Co. Longford
At Corlea, Co. Longford, a roadway formed of massive oak beams was found during peat harvesting. It was subsequently excavated and dated by dendrochronology (tree-ring dating) to 148 BC. A section of the road is now preserved in a visitor centre on the site
