Rath on Mounteagle

There is a rath on Mounteagle, and the owner of the land decided to cut down the thorn bushes growing round the bank. After cutting one, he lost the use of his arm, arm was ill for some months. Eventually he recovered his strength, but never again wished to touch the rath.

Another farmer in the same district attempted to cut back the bushes on a rath, as the shade was spoiling part of his corn. He lopped some of the branches; and later in the day was cycling into Abbeyleix along a level road.

When he was passing the field in which the rath was situated, his bicycle rose up and threw him off, hurting him quite severely. As a result of this fall, he left the rath alone.
