Some like John Daly and the murdered Mayors Clancy and O'Callaghan were prominent in the movement for national independence. Others such as Michael Keyes and Donough O'Malley became cabinet ministers. There were also a number of Mayors who became known outside their City because of their prominence in a variety of roles, such as Ted Russell, Jim Kemmy and Frank Prendergast.
