Could you guess how much water a person uses on average each day?

Up to 200 litres!

In Ireland, we use more than 1,700 million litres of water every day. We use water to help run industries, for washing, cooking food, drinking and growing crops.

Can you think of any other ways we use water?

As the demand on water is growing all the time, it's time for everyone to pull together and become water wise.

  • Take a shower instead of a bath. This uses half the amount of water.

  • If you hear a tap dripping, turn it off!

  • If you see a leak in a pipe, tell your parents and make sure they fix it!

  • When you're helping to clean the car or water the plants, use a bucket instead of a hose.

  • When you're brushing your teeth, don't leave the tap running. This wastes six litres of water every minute.

  • If you're helping to wash vegetables for dinner, use a basin instead of a running tap. Then you can use that water to feed the plants!

These are just a few ideas Eco Eric and I thought of to help save water. Don't be afraid add your own as well!

Be a water warden and spread the word on how to conserve our water!
