  • Aspects of Co. Louth

Carlingford Lough is a sea lough located between County Down in Northern Ireland and County Louth in the Republic of Ireland. The lough is fed by the Newry River and the Newry Canal.

It is 8 miles long and its upper parts lie between the lower slopes of the Mountains of Mourne and the Cooley Mountains.

The lough is supported by the towns of Warrenpoint and Rostrevor in County Down and Omeath, Carlingford and Greenore in County Louth.

Carlingford Marina

The marina in Carlingford is a very popular location for all sailing and yachting enthusiasts. The Isle of Man is just 60 miles away, while other attractive destinations like Howth in Dublin, Strangford Lough and Ardglass are all within a day's sailing of Carlingford.

The marina is located on the southern shore of the lough and is 4 miles from the Haulbowline Light House. The marina is accessible at all times, whether at high-tide or low-tide, beacuse the lough has a deep water shipping channel.

The marina has been developed in recent years to keep up with the times and is a very important part of County Louth's tourism industry.
