Polish Epic in Irish Libraries

'Epic' was first published in 2004 by O'Brien Press in Ireland

'Epic', written by Conor Kostick, has gone on to international success, and reached number two in the German children's book chart on its release there. Supported by the Ireland Literature Exchange, 'Epic' has been translated into twelve other languages. Over the years the book has been nominated for many awards, most recently for the 2013 Farniente Prize in Belgium. 'Epic' was written in the memory of Kostick's grandparents. In 1929, his grandparents, who were Jewish and troubled about their futures, made their way from Lublin, Poland, to the Baltic and there took ship for the USA. After a number of days at sea, the captain let them disembark and all the passengers did so in the belief they were in America. In fact, the port was Cobh.

As a gesture to the Poish Community, 'Epic' has been donated by Kostick to many of the public libraries in Ireland. They include:
