Workshop 1: Writing through the ages

Start with a tour of Marsh's Library looking at some of the old books. Then using quills and ink you can write letters which you can then fold over and seal with wax. We'll also be making scrolls and bookmarks, using invisible ink and typing using our really old typewriter!
Workshop 2: Relief printing using collage
Date: Tuesday 21 August 2012
See etching, woodcuts and prints in some of the books in Marsh's. Then using collage, you can produce your own card plate of a letter design, which you roll with ink and produce multiple prints.
Workshop 3: Bookmaking
Date: Wednesday 22 – Thursday 23 August 2012
Discover the different ways old books were made and what materials were used looking at examples in Marsh's. Then you will make your own simple leather-bound book ready to take away with you on Thursday. As well as this you can draw your own illuminated letters and illustrations and make your own bookplate.
The cost for the four days is €50. As places are limited, booking is essential. Please contact Education and Outreach Officer Maria O'Shea at maria.oshea@marshlibrary.ie or phone 01-4543511. Payment can be made online or by cheque.
