Vacancy: Digital Humanities Officer, Queen's University Belfast

JOB PURPOSE
To be responsible to the Head of Special Collections and Archives for a range of duties involving design, development and implementation of computer tool sets to facilitate digital scholarship in the Humanities.
MAJOR DUTIES
1. In consultation with academic and library staff, design, develop, implement and support computing platforms to present research through electronic resources.
2. Provide expert advice and solutions to staff and research students to ensure best practice and full awareness of technical and computing issues.
3. Provide technical support and advice to staff and research students in specification of software and functionality required of hardware.
4. Provide technical support and advice on the design and development of new database systems and interfaces for the creation and administration of electronic resources.
5. Adopt a proactive approach to the identification and resolution of potential problem areas such as metadata and copyright standards compliance.
6. Adopt a proactive approach to the identification of opportunities for developing new approaches and service enhancements to encourage participation within the University.
7. Ensure the effective maintenance of information and documentation, e.g. policy documentation, user and support materials, web pages, etc.
8. Collect, analyse and present reports, statistics and results to inform decision making within relevant areas.
9. Keep up-to-date with relevant technologies, policies and changes in legislation in the United Kingdom.
10. Contribute to the development and monitoring of Divisional and team strategies and plans. Maintain an awareness of relevant University strategies and plans.
11. Carry out any other duties which are appropriate to the post as may be reasonably requested by senior management.
Planning and Organising:
1. Plan own work over the short to medium term with an awareness of longer term issues.
2. Organize short or medium term developments or process changes in own area of activity.
3. Contribute to larger projects as part of a project team.
4. Develop appropriate work schedules in order to meet targets and turnaround times.
Resource Management Responsibilities:
1.Assist in the planning of resources within the area of responsibility to ensure that they are effectively managed and monitored.
2.Manage staff where appropriate; monitoring and supporting the performance management and development of staff to ensure that individual contributions are maximised.
Internal and External Relationships:
1. Attend internal and external meetings to ensure that relevant issues are appropriately represented and reported.
2. Liaise with key contacts in Schools and other support Directorates to ensure appropriate support, integration and collaboration for Digital Humanities research projects.
3. Undertake relevant training and outreach activities with academic staff and research students.
4. Liaise with external suppliers and other third parties.
