College Liaison Librarian, UCD

The College Liaison Librarian is located in the Client Services Unit, which is responsible for college and school liaison services across the five sites. These services include: lending and information; teaching & learning; access and admission; study facilities and site library management. The College Liaison Librarian proactively manages and develops the Librarys relationship with the Colleges, Schools, Institutes and Centres within UCD and identifies opportunities for collaboration and support. They are responsible, as part of a team, for developing library strategy to support University teaching & learning agendas and to negotiate, with programme and module coordinators and other key stakeholders the successful delivery of information literacy supports.

College liaison responsibility will be as determined by Library requirements and may be subject to change. The College Liaison Librarian will need to demonstrate a flexible attitude in relation to the changing nature of the function and post.

2010 Salary Scale: €35,043 -€50,446 per annum

2011 Salary Scale : €31,539 – €45,401per annum*

* Subject to all new entrants to public sector as of 01 January 2011

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The College Liaison Librarian will be a key member of the Client Services team with responsibility for:

  • Proactive development and management of the Library’s relationship with Colleges, constituent schools, and associated Institutes and Centres.
  • Advocacy and promotion of library services to the University community.
  • Collaboration with all library services to identify opportunities where the Library’s specialist services can support School and College initiatives.
  • Development of library strategy to support University Teaching & Learning agendas
  • Negotiation with programme and module coordinators and other key stakeholders the successful delivery of information literacy supports.
  • In partnership with wider Client Services team, development, coordination and delivery of teaching supports for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and for university staff.

Mandatory

  • Primary degree and a recognised postgraduate library qualification.
  • Ability to develop & manage successful partnerships and relationships with University academics, staff and Library colleagues at all levels.
  • Understanding of learning and teaching concepts in the context of Information Literacy skills delivery in academic programmes.
  • An understanding of e-learning and emerging technologies in the context of library services.
  • Knowledge or experience in design, delivery and evaluation of user support materials
  • Knowledge of and experience with electronic resources i.e. subject databases, journals and e-books.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of teams.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks with a creative approach to problem solving.
  • Good basic ICT skills (familiarity with Windows XP or above, MS Office or equivalent, and
  • Web browsers).

 Desirable

  • More than two years’ experience of working in an academic library.
  • Awareness of, and interest in, trends in higher education with particular reference to library service delivery.
  • Active interest in CPD including writing for publications and presenting at relevant conferences on behalf of the Library and University.
  • Knowledge of UCD and its organisational structure
