Lord Kilbracken loans papers to Killegar Local Studies and Archive Deparment

Leitrim Library

Papers date back to 1734

Christopher Lord Kilbracken has very kindly loaned his father John Godley's papers to the library's Local Studies and Archive Department. The papers have been meticulously indexed by Martin Morris and Andrew Hughes, archivists and are now open to the public. The archive goes back to 1734 when Richard Morgan bought the Killegar estate. The archive is not only a history of the estate, its owners and tenants but also contains documents relating to John Godley (Lord Kilbracken) who was not only a war veteran but a colourful international journalist and author.

Pictured above are Martin Morris, Archivist, and Lady Sue Kilbracken at the opening of the archive on 30 January 2013.
