Carlow County Library

International Women's Day is celebrated worldwide on March 8th. Solo exhibition by Amanda Tapley.

Each year International Women's Day is celebrated worldwide on March 8th. Since the first International Women's Day was held in 1911, thousands of events have taken place to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women. This year the theme of International Women's Day is 'Inspiring Change'.

Carlow Library celebrates Women's Day this year by hosting a solo exhibition by celebrated local female artist, Amanda Tapley.

Amanda has travelled extensively through Europe and lived in Spain for a number of years which inspired much of her earlier work. Since making her home in Carlow, along with her husband and three children, her latest works have been inspired by the legendary Carlow surroundings of Ducketts Grove and Oak Park Forest as well as the charming Carlow countryside. Amanda's creations are of both real and imagined places and are depicted using lots of texture and colour with much of the work being done with palette knife to create contemporary and impressionistic paintings.

"I was thrilled to be invited by Carlow Library, to hold an exhibition of my work in association with International Women's Day 2014" said Amanda, "International Women's Day is an important day for women all over the world as we celebrate who we are and what we can achieve".

"We extend a warm invitation to the women of Carlow, and the men too, to come and enjoy Amanda's work", says Josephine Coyne, County Librarian. Amanda will be available for a chat with visitors and will actually be creating some of her new works while she exhibits. It's a wonderful opportunity to see an artist at work and watch her new pieces evolve.

The exhibition, which will be hosted in the Shaw Room at Carlow Library on Tullow Street Carlow, opens on Friday 7th March and runs until Friday 14th March.
