Library Link: mobile service to Care and Repair Service in Carlow

Cavan County Library

New mobile service from 9th June and monthly thereafter

Carlow Library Service in partnership with Carlow County Development Partnership's Care and Repair Service will be providing a mobile library service called Library Link to participants of the Care and Repair Service, commencing June 9th and monthly from thereon in.

The participants of Care and Repair have been consulted and up to 30 people have expressed interest in receiving library resources to their homes.

The Care and Repair team will visit these participants in their homes across County Carlow and will bring collections of stock – books, film, music and audio, which will be provided by Carlow Central Library.

All participants will become members of the library and have access to all services.

As the service develops the feedback from the participants will influence the type of stock supplied to them as the collections will then be based on their needs.

Josephine Coyne, County Librarian comments:

The purpose of this service is to bring the library to the homes of those who may be disadvantaged due to a lack of transport or by lack of access to a local library.

This initiative allows the library service to reach those who are socially excluded and allows us to work in partnership with a current service provider who has the resources to reach those who most need services”.

Carlow Care and Repair currently offers two services free of charge to individuals over the age of 65 living across County Carlow:

  • The Repair Service: including small repair work and DIY jobs around the home.

  • Friendly Telephone Call Service: A weekly contact service made to clients by our Care and Repair admin team.

Through these services, the Care and Repair team continuously strives to improve the quality of life for older people

Aileen Nolan, CCDP Tus Supervisor who manages Carlow Care and Repair, stated "that the service has proved hugely popular since its launch in 2012 with over 225 people already benefitting from its services. The team are working with older people from every corner of the County, from Ballymurphy to Graiguecullen and from Hacketstown to Old Leighlin and staff are always delighted to hear from new clients.  Library Link provides us with a new and exciting opportunity to enhance our client’s lives and we are delighted to be working in collaboration with Carlow Library Service to deliver the service."
