The long hot summer has arrived (we hope!) and Libraries throughout the county are gearing up for a sizzling Summer of reading for children! Youll be a-mazed at whats going down at your local branch from July 1st Mythical Maze is the title of this years exciting reading challenge! Pick up a free poster, stickers and gifts as you read your way through the Summer holidays!
Horrid Henry’s 20th Anniversary will be celebrated in some of our branches too this month!
Book Club Gathering
On Thursday night next, June 26th we look forward to a bumper night for Book Lovers as we welcome author Donal Ryan to Loughboy Library at 7.30pm. Winner of the Irish Book of the Year 2012 and long-listed for the Man Booker Prize 2013, we are delighted to present Donal as primary speaker for our annual Book Lovers Night.
Author Jennifer Johnston said that his first book "The Spinning Heart" was "the best novel I've read for years and years" and his follow-on book "The Thing about December" has also received rave reviews.
We welcome blogger and author Lorna Sixsmith will also speak at the event, and Liz Walsh from Stonehouse Books, Kieran St will provide a pop-up bookshop.
All book clubs and book lovers are welcome.
Thomastown Library
Thomastown Book Club meet on the first Wednesday of every month and the next meeting will be on Wednesday 2nd of July at 2.15. They are reading In the Forest by Edna O’Brien for the month of June.

Art and Crafts
The Open Circle Social Fabric exhibition will take place from 2nd - 26th July, we look forward to offering embroidery workshops to tie in with this display.
The Nattering Knitters continue to meet from 10am on Thursday mornings for knitting crochet sewing etc.
Mythical Maze
Kids! Pick up your Mythical Maze Summer reading challenge card from July 1st, suitable for boys and girls age 4-11.Read 6 books explore the maze and meet some weird and wonderful creatures from myths and legends along the way, and collect stickers and incentives!

New books arrive monthly, so do feel free to request particular titles.
Our Kids Book Club will meet next on September 2nd.
Ferrybank Library
FREE Art Classes for Adults
Starting on Friday 27th June at 10.30am, these beginners classes with Hazel will introduce you to the art of sketching and watercolour painting. No experience or materials necessary – places limited, booking essential.
Photography and Art Exhibitions
Currently on display is a wonderful selection of photographs by well known photographer Joe Cashin – well worth a look. From 2nd July we are delighted to host an Art Exhibition by members of the local PACT Youth Project as part of their Gaisce Award programme.
Coffee Morning
Thurs 3rd July 10.30am – 12pm with all proceeds in aid of the Deise Animal Sanctuary, a very worthwhile cause. This event is organised by Ferrybank PACT Youth Project in conjunction with Ferrybank Library. Pop in for a cuppa and have a look at the Art Exhibition while you’re here.
Mythical Maze
We’re now on the countdown to the Summer Reading Challenge – registration packs available from Tues 1st July.....don’t ‘myth’ out!!!

Horrid Henry
As Horrid Henry is celebrating 20 years this year we will hold a Horrid Henry workshop for children aged up to 12 years on Tuesday July 15th from 11- 1pm. Places are limited for this workshop so please ring to book your place on 056 7794178.

Loughboy Library
Exhibition
Open Circle, Social Fabric: Forty hand embroidered portraits of Kilkenny women are currently on exhibit in Loughboy Library. These portraits were made by women throughout the county to celebrate International Women's Day earlier this year. Finishing soon, not to be missed!
RTÉ The Family Project
RTÉ recently filmed a segment of The Family Project at Loughboy Library. The programme featuring the Barry Family from Loughboy with their tutor Yvonne Keating will be aired on Monday June 30th at 7.30pm.

Toddler Hour
Storytime & Crafts for young children will continue on Thursdays at 11.30am on the following dates:

Poetry for Children, with Michael Creagh
Michael Creagh from Rathdowney Co. Laois is a poet, musician, singer, storyteller and sometimes farmer. He will host an interactive poetry workshop for 8-12 year olds on Friday July 25th at 11am. Booking is advisable 056 7794176.
