Over 3,600 library books were read by over 600 children in Leitrim in summer 2014. Leitrim Libraries organised a Summer Reading Tree programme for all children of primary school age in their nine Branch Libraries.

The project was rolled out just before the beginning of the school summer holidays 2014. For every book a child read a leaf was added to the reading tree in the library. The tree grew over the summer months and all those who read a minimum of six books were invited to an Awards Day in their local Library in September. Successful children were presented with a certificate for their achievement with a draw for Book Prizes in all nine branch libraries and there was one very lucky county winner of the Big Prize - an iPad!
