Blind Date at the Library

Clare County Library

February 12th-14th

Clare County Library recently played matchmaker for members of the public!

Clare County Library recently played matchmaker for members of the public when they set borrowers up on a blind date…with a book! For the first time the Clare Library Service presented Blind Date with a Book, where borrowers take a chance and check out a book selected by library staff, without knowing exactly what that book is until they bring it home. The aim was to introduce the borrower to a book they might love, but may not have chosen otherwise.

From February 12th-14th, to mark Valentines Day, the public were invited to visit any of the six participating library branches in Ennis, Ennistymon, Kilrush, Killaloe, Scariff and Shannon where there were displays of books wrapped in plain paper and decorated with a Valentines theme. On making their selection borrowers then checked out the book in disguise and received a sweet treat to take home along with their newfound book love. The selected books included a range of genres and themes but the fun part was not being able to judge any of them by their cover before getting to know them. It was hoped that borrowers would fall in love at first page but there was no need to worry about any hard feelings or awkwardness if not as there are plenty more books on the shelf! The promotion proved incredibly popular with some branches having to add to their displays due to demand.
