The Children's Book Festival runs for the month of October every year and sees libraries, schools and bookshops across the country hosting events with the very best Irish and international children's writers and illustrators.
County Carlow Library Service is delighted to announce that we will be hosting a suite of FREE activities across our four branches and we would love you and your little readers to come and join us.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary Carlow County Library Service invited all little readers to attend our special Book Clinic and meet The Book Doctor. The infamous Book Doctor held a FREE clinic in Carlow Central Library on Tullow Street Carlow on Saturday 3rd October from 2-4.30pm. Parents and children arrived in their droves for an informal consultation with one of Carlow County Library Services friendly panel of Book Doctors who were ready to offer the best advice for the young readers in and handed out prescriptions for an exciting new read and cured any book-related ailment!
The Book Doctor did not arrived alone but was accompanied by a host of her friends, including two nutty nurses, Batman, Captain Jack Sparrow, the Colouring Princess, and two crazy clowns! Guest of honour was SpongeBob Square pants, who was greeted with hugs from visitors of all ages!
As well as meeting the Book Doctor, the 300 visitors were invited to join in the story-telling and colouring circles and have their faces painted by Page the Library Clown.
"We opened the library especially for this event on the afternoon of Saturday, October 3rd from 2pm -4.30pm", says Josephine Coyne, County Librarian. "We wanted to ensure the little Book Lovers had the entire library ALL to themselves and could make as much noise as they pleased!"
And they certainly DID make noise as squeals of laughter could be heard all the way down the street!
"Our event could not have happened without the enthusiastic support of our library staff," adds Josephine, "who rose to the challenge and not only planned this successful event, but adorned costumes and stepped into all the roles that needed to be filled. A big thanks to all who were involved."
