Monaghan County Libraries supporting those who are unemployed

Monaghan County Libraries are currently involved in an Erasmus European Programme with 6 other European Countries which aims to improve the knowledge and skills of Librarians when it comes to providing assistance to those who are unemployed. The Partner Library Services from Austria, Finland, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Lithuania and ourselves in Ireland have been working together to identify specific target groups and their particular needs. The project has involved Librarians travelling to the Partner Libraries to witness first-hand the quality of services on offer. Many of the European Libraries have taken on an active role in adult education. More details of the programme can be found on www.linkinjob.eu.

As part of the project, Monaghan Libraries have been developing their Services to Jobseekers to include Computer Classes specifically designed for Jobseekers and their particular needs as well as a series of Workshops which includes topics like C.V Preparation and Interview Techniques. Library Staff have also devised a Staff Handbook which contains information on all of the relevant agencies and support services in the local area as well as an Information Leaflet for Jobseekers which directs them to the variety of Services in the Library itself.
