Emyr Estyn Evans was at Queen’s University Belfast from 1928 until the early 1970s. Primarily a geographer, he also had interests in archaeology, folklife, physical planning and Irish studies. His books included Irish heritage (1942), Irish Folk Ways (1957), Mourne Country (1951) and The Personality of Ireland (1973). He was instrumental in the establishment of the Ulster Folk Museum, and in promoting an interest in the countryside of Northern Ireland and of Ireland generally.
