Christ Church, Waterford

Christ Church Cathedral has been central to the life of Waterford city since the Vikings built the first church on the site 1000 years ago.  The current neoclassical building is one of the finest Georgian buildings in the country.  It boasts a magnificent stucco plasterwork ceiling and reredos, medieval tombs and the beautiful Elliot-Jones organ.  The cathedral was the site of the marriage of Strongbow and Aoife in 1170, a pivotal point in Irish history. The building is open daily to visitors and hosts a regular music series.
