Weather and Temperature

Ireland also has had to contend with its own bouts of extreme weather with subzero temperatures recorded recently in the winters and flooding in parts of the country.   These kinds of weather conditions effect public health systems, causing loss of property, reduction in the quality of drinking water and even the collapse of entire infrastructures of town and cities. The environmental displacement of people in certain regions due to climate change is becoming more common and eventually entire countries will be lost to seawater intrusion in coastal areas due to rising sea levels.

The oceans play a crucial role in long term changes in climate systems. The large regional variability in earth’s climate requires research and observation of the oceans on a global scale, using a variety of techniques and approaches.
