Cloonclare

Cloonclare - Cluain-clair, "Meadow land of the plain"

Mountain scenery forms the main scenic feature of this district. Through the parish runs the Glenfarne valley about two miles at its widest by seven in length. Steep purple-topped mountains dominate this glen and numerous tiny and turbulent streamlets cascade down the slopes to the valley below.

Cloonclare townland lies about one mile south of Manorhamilton. The Railway Bridge, on the road to Killarga, is in this townland. The ruins of an old church are there and may easily be seen from the Railway Bridge. It is from this townland and old church, that was there, that the parish takes its name.
