Lawrencetown Village

First erected about the year 1700 by Walter Lawrence enlarged by Rear Admiral, Peter Lawrence, 1750, and rebuilt by Col. Walter Lawrence, 1765, to promote the linen industry in the West of Ireland, it contains a Protestant place of worship in connection with the Church of Ireland, Roman Catholic chapel and Schoolhouse, a Petty Sessions Courthouse, A Dispensary and a Barrack for the Royal Irish Constabulary. It stands at the distance of seven miles from two Railway Stations, Ballinasloe on the Midland Great Western Line and Banagher on the Great Southern and Western Railway.
